Advancing Circular Electronics: Envirocycle Selected as Electronics Recycling Partner for the GEM Program in the Philippines

Electronics Management (GEM) Program, funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and led by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO): the Philippine national project launch on September 30 and the GEM global program launch on October 7.

Envirocycle was selected as an electronics recycling partner for the Philippine initiative, reflecting the company’s established local regulatory compliance, industry accreditations, and internationally recognized standards for responsible electronics management.

The activities highlighted the importance of managing electronics across their full lifecycle — from design and production to repair, reuse, refurbishment, collection, recycling, and resource recovery.

September 30: Sustainable Electronics Management in the Philippines National Project Launch

The Sustainable Electronics Management in the Philippines Project was officially launched on September 30, 2026 at Park Inn by Radisson, Quezon City. The national launch brought together Philippine government agencies, local government units (LGUs), industry representatives, and other local stakeholders focused on advancing responsible electronics management in the country.

The Philippine national project forms part of the broader GEM Program, funded by GEF and led by UNIDO. In the Philippines, the project is led by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources - Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) with UNIDO and executed by EcoWaste Coalition, with partner agencies including the Department of Science and Technology (DOST), Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA), Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), and the Development Bank of the Philippines (DBP).

Its focus is on strengthening circular approaches to electronics management in the Philippines, including product life extension, repair, refurbishment, responsible collection, recycling, and material recovery.

Representing Envirocycle Philippines, Engr. Wilssie Sanchez, Commercial & Sustainability Engineer, delivered the company’s message of support and reaffirmed Envirocycle’s role as a qualified industry partner in responsible electronics management.

Her message highlighted Envirocycle’s experience in electronics collection, asset and material recovery, responsible recycling, repair and refurbishment, downstream traceability, and sustainability reporting.

Envirocycle’s selection reflects the importance of working with organizations that can demonstrate both regulatory compliance in the Philippines and alignment with internationally recognized standards for responsible electronics processing.

October 7: GEM Global Programme Launch

The engagement continued on October 7, 2026 at Seda Vertis North, Quezon City during the official GEM Global Program Launch. Unlike the Philippine-focused national launch on September 30, this event brought together the international GEM community, including key partners such as the African Development Bank Group (AfDB), United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), and United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP), alongside delegations from participating countries and other global partners.

The global launch included international implementing agencies, delegations from participating countries, technical experts, industry representatives, and global partners working across a program spanning 16 countries.

Discussions emphasized the need to move beyond a purely end-of-life approach to electronics. Repair, reuse, refurbishment, safer collection, responsible recycling, material recovery, secure data management, and product life extension were among the recurring themes raised throughout the program.

Envirocycle also participated in the exhibition, where the company was able to demonstrate how practical electronics recovery and recycling operations can contribute to broader circular economy objectives.

A Trusted Partner for Responsible Electronics Management

Being selected as an electronics recycling partner for the GEM initiative reinforces Envirocycle’s position as a trusted provider of responsible electronics management solutions in the Philippines.

Our local regulatory compliance, industry accreditations, internationally recognized certifications, and operational experience enable Envirocycle to work with businesses, government institutions, and international organizations that require secure, traceable, and responsible management of end-of-life electronics.

As the electronics sector continues to evolve, organizations need partners that can do more than simply collect electronic waste.

They need partners capable of supporting repair, reuse, refurbishment, material recovery, responsible recycling, downstream traceability, and secure asset disposition. Envirocycle Philippines is proud to bring that experience to the GEM Programme and to contribute to the development of more circular and resource-efficient electronics value chains.
